our story

My love for Bernedoodles began long before the breed itself became widely known. In the 1990s, a school assignment asked me to write a research paper on any topic of my choosing. I glanced down at the Bernese Mountain Dog puppy pictured on my folder and instantly knew what I’d be studying.

That afternoon, I pulled out the encyclopedia—this was well before the internet was a household staple—and fell completely in love. Like so many others, I was captivated by the Bernese Mountain Dog’s beauty, intelligence, and gentle temperament. That fascination never really left me.

I grew up with a Labrador Retriever who was whelped in our home, and later adopted several rescue dogs as an adult—many of whom shed enthusiastically. When the doodle movement began to take shape, combining beloved temperaments with lower-shedding coats, I was genuinely excited.

In roughly 2015, I discovered the Bernedoodle and began closely following the breed’s development. I knew that when the time was right, I wanted to invest thoughtfully and ethically—specifically through a Guardian Program that prioritized the wellbeing of the dogs. It felt like a “one day” dream. In 2020, after years of learning from and observing established programs, I welcomed my first Bernedoodle, Livy, into our family. She remains a beloved member of our family and an emotional support pal to my son.

By late 2023, conversations around partnership became more serious. My family and I felt ready—both personally and professionally—to establish a breeding and Guardian program in Houston. As a native Houstonian, I was confident in my ability to build a strong network of trustworthy, values-aligned families. We officially launched in February 2024 and have been incredibly grateful for the response and momentum since then.

From the outset, our program was built around a clear conviction: the theme of a dog’s life should not a breeding program. Instead, every dog deserves to live their best lives with people who know and love them. Puppies selected for our Guardian Program are placed in carefully vetted, trustworthy homes where they are raised intentionally from puppyhood through maturity—not as future breeders first, but as beloved family companions.

These Guardian families are deeply invested in their dogs’ emotional and physical wellbeing. We partner together to provide comprehensive care for Brighton parents. The dogs grow up going on walks, attending children’s baseball games, roadtrips with their families, and participating in everyday life. They receive structure, affection, training, and enrichment, forming secure attachments that allow them to mature into confident, well-regulated adults. When they come of age and enter the reproductive program, they do so from a place of stability, trust, and care.

My professional background is in mental health, with a specialization in the connection between the nervous system and stress-response recovery. I’m a science nerd, and I appreciate researching deeply and applying practical systems to produce the best outcomes for everyone involved. This perspective shapes every aspect of our program. Raising parent dogs in Guardian homes—where healthy bonds and consistent caregiving are the norm—is not only ethical and humane, it is scientifically sound. Emotionally healthy parent dogs are far more likely to produce puppies that are adaptable, resilient, and prepared to thrive in family environments around the world. It’s proven true with every family who has brought home a Brighton Bernedoodle puppy and taken the time to come back and share things like, “This is the best dog I’ve ever had.”

In addition to living full, enriched lives, our parent dogs are carefully hand-selected from well-documented genetic lines and are extensively screened for health and temperament. If a dog does not meet our exceptionally high standards, they are not retained for breeding—no exceptions. Breeding is thoughtfully planned, limited, and supported by comprehensive veterinary care, with the wellbeing of the dog always taking precedence.

If you are seeking a world-class, premium Micro-Mini, Petite-Mini, Mini, Medium, or Standard Bernedoodle—raised with integrity, intention, and deep respect for the whole life of the dog—you are in the right place.

We have parents who have produced stunning, color-rich coat that range from straight to wavy-curly, on the lower-maintenance non-shedding spectrum. Every puppy that comes from Brighton Bernedoodles is a multigenerational Bernedoodle, which just means that all our parents are bernedoodles. The coat colors our parents produce are: traditional tricolor, merle, merle tricolor, chocolate, chocolate tricolor, chocolate merle, red tuxedo, caramel tuxedo, and espresso tricolor. We are honored to be a part of what is developing in this breed.

Every breed you have heard of originates from intentionally combined dogs for a purpose. Our purpose is to produce beautiful, well-mannered, consistent dogs that make the world a more loving, happy place!
